A tropical airmass overhead will lead to multiple days of rain showers | 10/23PM

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - The remnants of Hurricane Norma are leaving us with a tropical airmass overhead. This will lift northeast tonight into tomorrow which will result in widespread rain! This moist airmass could bring record-breaking rainfall. The exact track of this system looks to stay near the I-44 corridor, where rainfall will be the heaviest. Now how much could Texoma receive? The average appears to be between 2-4″ however some locations could receive 4-6″. A flood watch (where the confidence is highest for heavy rainfall) is in place for Comanche, Tillman, Caddo, Grady, Stephens and Jefferson counties east in southwest Oklahoma and Wilbarger, Baylor, Wichita, Archer and Clay counties in north Texas. While rain has been lacking, the dry/hard soils should make runoff more efficient but the typical areas that flood, will. Once the grounds become saturated, then the flood watch may need to be extended.

At the end of the day, we’re looking at multiple rounds of rain. What I described above is the first few rounds. Instability will be present so occasional thunder/lightning is possible. A few storms may be strong but the severe threat is generally on the low side. The clouds and rain will keep high temperatures in the mid 70s both Tuesday and Wednesday. South winds at 10 to 20mph. Anticipated wind gusts in the low to mid 30s. Expect a brief lull in the precipitation on Thursday with skies staying mostly sunny. High temperatures will warm into the low 80s with south winds at 10 to 15mph. Exposed Thermostatic Mixer Shower

A cold front moves in Friday evening bringing highs in the upper to mid 70s Friday and Saturday. An even stronger, more potent, cold front arrives Sunday morning. This will drop high temperatures into the upper 60s on Sunday with the upper 40s by Monday! Precipitation chances will increase Sunday and Monday however the temperature profiles will be too warm to supper any winter precipitation! A widespread freeze is likely though through next week with morning temperatures in the 20s and 30s beyond the 7-day.

Have a great Tuesday! -LW
