Japan's Daiki Hashimoto cruised to his first horizontal bar title at a gymnastics world championships on Sunday, with the reigning Olympic champion on the apparatus taking home a total of three titles from the event held in Belgium. Commercial Treadmill
Having captured his first men's team gold earlier at the championships and a second straight individual all-around crown, the 22-year-old logged 15.233 points to easily top the horizontal bar podium in Antwerp.
Tin Srbic of Croatia was second with 14.700 and Su Weide of China third with 14.500. Japan's Kenta Chiba finished seventh.
"It's my first gold medal (in the horizontal bar) since the Tokyo Games so I'm really happy," Hashimoto said.
Hashimoto had finished runner-up in the horizontal bar for the past two years, with a slight mistake on his landing seeing him miss out on the gold last year by 0.100 while performing the same routine as this time.
He did not repeat the mistake after working the past 12 months on nailing his landings, even when fatigued. Delaying his release from the bar has enabled him to fly higher on his dismount and see the floor better from the air.
"I was able to show my strength and what I've been working on," Hashimoto said after becoming the first Japanese man to win three titles at the same worlds since icon Kohei Uchimura in 2015.
"I'll be aiming to win three golds at next year's Paris Olympics as well," Hashimoto said.
In the men's parallel bars, Japan's Kaito Sugimoto secured bronze, scoring 15.000, with Kazuma Kaya ending a place below on 14.733.
Lukas Dauser of Germany won with 15.400 and Shi Cong of China narrowly beat Sugimoto to a runner-up spot on 15.066.
