I seriously couldn’t imagine my kitchen without a cast iron skillet. The virtually indestructible  material's retention and distribution of high heat makes it an excellent tool for baking, grilling, and, of course, searing a golden brown surface on everything you put in it. And one of my favorite cast iron pieces comes with a perk I couldn’t go without — an enamel coating.

Staub skillets are highly regarded by editors and home cooks alike for their top-notch quality, specifically their durable cast iron interior and enamel-coated interior. This enamel only improves the experience of cooking with cast iron, since it makes ingredients stick a little less, prevents rust, and requires very little maintenance.

Because of their thoughtful design, Staub’s pieces are slowly making their way into all of my family’s kitchens, now that my sister owns her own skillet. They’re not inexpensive, but, with the current deals running at Williams Sonoma up to 47% off, I’d say now’s the best time to pick one up.

This deep skillet is the one I own. I received it from Staub to test back in December 2022, and I haven’t been able to stop using it since. The cast iron pan has a black enameled interior that arrives nonstick right out of the box. While raw cast iron requires frequent seasoning after cooking, I typically season it once every month, depending on how often I am using it. The matte enamel interior is also slightly textured, which helps with the process of searing and browning ingredients.

While I originally thought the pan’s 11-inch diameter and deep interior would be too much space, since I am usually cooking just for myself, I’ve ended up really appreciating the room. I use it for small-batches of ingredients, like one salmon filet or a handful of nuts to candy. But, it also works for bigger recipes, like brown butter cornbread, one-skillet dinners, shakshuka, and more. One design quality that’s absolutely key for me is the fact that the sides don’t slope in. I’m a baker, and those straight edges ensure every part of the recipe is baked consistently. And to assist moving the pan around the kitchen, it is designed with a helper handle and  two pour spouts.

It’s not difficult to clean either. If there are any stuck on bits, I put a bit of water in the skillet and boil them off — they release easily. Not only is this skillet a favorite of mine, but we also tested it separately while we were on the search for the best enameled skillet, and this model ranked as our splurge-worthy pick. Shop it in a variety of shades, starting at $180.

If you’re looking for a more classic skillet, this version from the brand is perfect. It’s on sale in two sizes — 10 inches and 12 inches — for as little as $100 right now. My aunt gifted my sister the 10-inch pan that is ideal for one to two people for Christmas this year. It's perfect for searing ingredients and making one-skillet dinners, which I know my sister plans on doing, plus a whole lot more.

It comes with the same enameled cast iron that can be used on any stovetop, and in the oven or under the broiler up to 500℉. The base of the pan has more rounded edges, which is great for stirring, plus you still have a ton of surface area at the bottom. Use the two pour spouts to drain liquid and fat without causing a mess, and use the helper handle to easily maneuver the pan around.

From sage green to matte black, there’s a color on sale that’ll fit your style. Shop the deep traditional skillet and the enamel fry pan at Williams Sonoma now to see why Staub’s pans are my family’s favorites. Soon, you won’t be able to imagine your kitchen without them either.
