So you've probably used baking powder and vinegar to clean your home, but have you ever thought about adding mouthwash to your cleaning routine?

Clean your clothes and washing machine

Stinky gym gear is no match for mouthwash. Add a cup to your next load of washing to clean your clothes and washer in one cycle. Opt for a clear mouthwash and avoid artificially coloured ones, as they might stain your clothes.

Instead of reaching for a bottle of bleach, how about whitening your tiles with a concoction of mouthwash? Mix two cups of water with half a cup of mouthwash and start scrubbing with a toothbrush. With a little elbow grease, the alcohol in mouthwash disinfects while also buffing the surface.

Following the pandemic, we all have an abundance of hand sanitiser, but if you're ever short, mouthwash can replace the handbag essential. Just be sure to choose a sugar-free product, or you'll end up with sticky hands.

You're probably familiar with adding sugar to freshly cut flowers to help make them last longer, but a cup of mouthwash can do even more. Dilute two tablespoons of your favourite mouthwash in a vase with water to help keep the stems clean while also reducing bacteria.

Let a quarter cup of mouthwash sit in your toilet bowl for around half an hour, then start scrubbing. This will help eliminate any musty smells and most importantly return the shine to your toilet.

The same product that freshens your breath in an instant will also freshen up your tile or vinyl floors. Add a capful to a bucket of hot water and mop as usual (just to note, this isn't suitable for timber flooring).

Treat toenail fungus at home by applying equal parts of vinegar and mouthwash onto a cotton wool ball. Apply to the affected nail three times a day.

Repel mosquitoes by mixing two tablespoons of mouthwash into a spray  bottle with a cup of water and spray around pot plants where they frequent.

If you run out of glass cleaner, a little alcohol-based mouthwash will do the job just as well.
