During Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Brownwood City Council unanimously approved the purchase of furniture for the Event Center Complex from Facilities Resource at a cost of $786,934.14 to be paid out of City reserves.
This purchase will include furniture for the following: Designer Marketplace
There will be 1,000 indoor chairs, 500 outdoor doors, 75 plastic round tables that seat eight and 50 rectangular tables among the purchase, according to Brownwood Municipal Development District Executive Director Ray Tipton.
The furniture is currently expected to be installed by the end of February 2024, but rental storage is lined up if there is a delay.
Also Tuesday, the City Council unanimously awarded a bid and authorized the purchase and installation of a new litter fence at the Landfill by Gorilla Netting at a cost of $239,860.32.
City staff solicited proposals to purchase and have installed a new litter fence at the Landfill for a second time. One bid was received and read aloud on October 23, 2023, and the bid met all of the required qualifications. The Landfill cell CO has an excess of $1 million due to fuel savings and the fact that the dirt to remove was over estimated. The CO was written to allow for the funding of other improvements as long as they are long-term infrastructure located at the Landfill. Since this project has been identified as a future capital project, staff is recommending that this project be completed now utilizing these funds
The City Council on Tuesday also unanimously authorized the installation of a new perimeter fence at the landfill by Martin Earthworks at a cost of $24,850.
City staff solicited quotes for the installation of 2,000 feet of 6-foot chain-link fencing that will extend from the main gate to the north property corner. The department has 95% of the materials on hand so the cost of this project will primarily cover the contractors labor and equipment. Staff received two quotes for the project and the low bid was from Martin Earthworks.
The City Council also unanimously awarded a bid for the sale of 506 W. Baker to Fred Finkelstein in the amount of $500.
The City has received interest from Realtors regarding the sale of this property located at 506 W. Baker. It is a small parcel, 22 X 72, and is located in a floodplain. The property has an assessed value of $310 by the Brown County Appraisal District. The property is being sold “as-is”. The purchaser of the property is responsible for all closing costs, including, without limitation, title insurance and deed recording/filing fees.
