FROZEN locks have plagued drivers of colder climates for decades, but there's an easy and cheap solution that takes seconds to apply.

Rac, thankfully, published a list of things drivers can do to prepare their car and themselves for the cold season, including a handy tip on how to keep doors from freezing shut.
The first order of business is to order a silicone-based furniture polish, which can be found for $2 at Walmart.
"Use a little silicone-based furniture polish on the rubber door seals. It helps prevent doors getting stuck when it freezes," the site read.
Rac recommends that by spraying a small amount onto a paper towel or microfiber cloth and applying it to the weather stripping along the inside of the doors, it will prevent ice from forming.
"It’s best to apply the polish with a cloth, so you don’t spray it onto the vehicle’s paintwork."
Without ice on the weather stripping, drivers and passengers can easily enter and exit a vehicle without worrying about being locked out.
Additionally, a single application will last the duration of the season but can be applied as needed.
As a word of caution, Rac also mentioned that spraying it onto a cloth or towel is important, as any silicon-based solution can discolor interior plastics if they come in contact.
If you happen to have silicone-based lubricant spray lying around, that can also be used to prevent frost buildup, as home mechanic ChrisFix explains.
"Weather stripping is made to keep water from getting into the car, but if water does get in there, it could be enough to make the door stick to the frame," he said.
"By spreading the silicone on the interior weather stripping, it helps keep the door from freezing onto itself."
Additionally, the same lubricant spray can be used to prevent keyholes from freezing due to trapped water, thanks to silicone's ability to displace water.
"It works because silicone is hydrophobic, which means it repels water. So, water won't be able to freeze if it's not there," he said.
Keyholes can also be de-iced by using a few drops of hand sanitizer on the key itself and using the key to distribute the solution.
The key ingredient is alcohol, which lowers the freezing point and melts ice quickly.
If either is used before the temperatures drop below freezing, it can help drivers save precious time in the morning before leaving for work.
