A boat dock fire that broke out Wednesday morning near Covington has been contained the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Firefighters responded to the scene at a boat dock off Ox Bow Lane on the Tchefuncte River. Several boats were ablaze. The Sheriff's Office Marine Division was called to assist, but the fire had already been contained, the Sheriff's Office said.
In a news release on its Facebook page, St. Tammany Fire District No. 2 said firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire involving several boats around 4:45 a.m. at the River Club Marina. Crews found 18 of the 27 boat slips burning. Crews kept the fire from spreading to other boats or the nearby marsh, the district said.
There were no injuries. The state Fire Marshal's Office was called to assist in the investigation and to help douse any hot spots, the fire district said.
The state Department of Environmental Quality was called as well, the district said.
